The Rave Survival Guide
Hours of dancing is serious cardio. Here's how to keep your numbers in range from doors to afterparty.
Before: pre-game smart
Eat a balanced meal with slow carbs. Talk to your doctor about temp basal or reduced bolus for long dance sessions. Charge your phone, pump and CGM receiver.
Pack list
Glucose tabs or gels, a snack bar, spare CGM/infusion set, insulin in a cooling case, glucagon, medical ID, portable charger, and a doctor's note for security.
During: check often
Set CGM alerts higher than usual — lows creep in fast while dancing. Check every hour, even when you feel fine. Loud music means you may miss alarms, so turn on vibration.
Hydrate (but not sugar-blind)
Heat and dancing dehydrate you and can push numbers up. Drink water steadily; know which drinks contain sugar.
Alcohol & substances
Alcohol can cause delayed lows hours later, even overnight. Many substances mask symptoms. Eat, set alarms, and never go solo.
After: the comedown low
Muscles keep pulling glucose for up to 24 hours after a big night. Have a snack before bed and set a night alarm.
